ALTAMONT — Gloria Chardeen, a mother and grandmother who had worked as a Guilderland school secretary, died peacefully at home in Altamont on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021. She was 80.

She was born in Albany to Henry and Edna Bink on Oct. 10, 1940.

Mrs. Chardeen was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Delmar.

On a day as clear and bright as Sept. 11, 2001, the wind blows a huge American flag suspended by Westmere and Guilderland fire trucks over the World Trade Center memorial at the Altamont fairgrounds. The memorial includes an actual piece from the Twin Towers. The display was part of a tribute held at the fairgrounds during Saturday’s demolition derby, delayed from Fair Week due to Tropical Storm Henri.
