Guilderland

On Wednesday, Feb. 16, the Guilderland gymnastics team took to the mat at the Section 2 championships at Shaker High School.

GUILDERLAND — Bernice Shultes Bunzey, formerly of Berne, died peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, at the Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland. She was 98.

Phillips Hardware in January was looking to post four signs that would total 128 square feet in area — well above what’s allowed by town law. That request met with unanimous pushback from Guilderland’s zoning board, which led to Phillips halving its ask earlier this month, a request that found a more receptive audience. But at the Feb. 16 meeting, Phillips requested its application be shelved.

“At least 5.4 million children live in a home with at least one unlocked and loaded weapon and at least 80 percent of school shooters under the age of 18 aquire their weapons from the home, including the recent Oxford, Michigan shooter, who killed four,” said Conor Webb, president of the Guilderland chapter of March For Our Lives.

GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland Garden Club has elected these officers for 2022:

— President Merril-Lee Lenegar;

— First Vice President Maureen McNamara;

— Second vice President John Haluska;

— Secretaries Donna Mohr and  Linda Miller; and

— Treasurer Kris Vogt.

In talking to Guilderland’s school administrators and to the district’s Recovery Task Force, Superintendent Marie Wiles said they felt that, when there is no longer a mandate from “a higher authority,” Guilderland would change its requirement to this: “We highly recommend masks but we don’t require them.”
