The Union College senior from Guilderland was awarded for her passion for soccer and life.

Ella Armstrong was celebrated at the Altamont Fire Department installation dinner, and Egeziaca Rufa, originally from Frosinone, Italy, turned 100 years old.

A display on early Altamont inventors is featured at Village Hall.

We viewed with some disappointment the cover photo in the Jan. 23 edition, as well as some photos on the sports pages, highlighting school-sponsored wrestling activity.  As evidenced in the pictures, none of the athletes were wearing a protective mouth guard.

GUILDERLAND — Nicholas Algers, of Guilderland, has joined the Albany-office sales team of Weichert, Realtors – Northeast Group.

A 22-year resident of the area, he will assist property buyers and sellers throughout the Capital Region.

Glenn and Alice Sanders of Shawnee, Okla., have announced the engagement of their daughter, Isabel Sanders, to James Vitale, son of Jim and Mary Vitale of Altamont.

St. John’s Lutheran Church at 140 Maple Ave. in Altamont has the following schedule for Sunday, Feb.23: 

— 8:30 a.m. there will be an informal worship including modern and ethnic hymns plus a discussion of the format for the sermon; and

GUILDERLAND — Deloris E. Van Deusen-Heidenreich, a lifelong Girl Scout and a passionate skier, died on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014.

“She has left her earthly dwelling to join her beloved husband, Stanley Heidenreich, and her cat, Misty,” wrote her family in a tribute.

There are times that we say things and have a nagging afterthought that we either should not have said what we did or we should have chosen our words more carefully. After reading last week’s column, I felt that I was to casual, about the Wounded Warriors and needed to explain more about their injuries.

Their fourth album — named 10 Years 2Late because, they joke, they are “10 years too late for a major recording contract” — consists of 14 original songs, about relationships, including budding relationships; full-blown love; and break-up songs.
