New York State Court of Appeals Associate Judge Victoria Graffeo was honored last week with two different awards.

In terms of our most important mission of spay/neuter, 2013 was our most active and successful year: 806 cats and 175 dogs.

More important than these numbers is the fact that we prevented the births of thousands, of unwanted kittens and puppies who would have faced uncertain and painful futures.

What an exciting time this is for sports fans.

Saint Valentine was a roman priest who was beheaded in 170 A.D. on or around Feb. 14. His crime had been performing marnux ceremonies for young men who were supposed to remain single in order to make better soldiers!

St. John’s Lutheran Church at 140 Maple Ave. in Altamont has the following schedule for Sunday, Feb.9: 

— 8:30 a.m. there will be an informal worship including modern and ethnic hymns plus a discussion of the format for the sermon; and

ALTAMONT — Ten $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to current New York State high school seniors and also students enrolled in college. The New York State Association Agricultural Fairs and the New York State Showpeople’s Association sponsor the scholarships.

Landon Cooper ran a marathon to show his love for a friend battling sarcoma. He kept on running, across the country, and now around it, to raise funds and awareness about the rare cancer.

The Altamont Rescue Squad is planning a half-million-dollar expansion of its building, which it considers to be cramped.

Frank Cacckello has decided to step away from coaching the Guilderland girls' basketball team after 13 years; some complaints were rumbling. He announced earlier, this season would be his last.
