This is an open letter to the members of the Guilderland Board of Education.

Early on the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 20, our daughter, my husband, and I had the unfortunate experience of being part of a vehicle rollover accident on Route 146.

GUILDERLAND — On Saturday at Crossgates Mall, certified technicians checked 124 car seats to see if they were safely installed.

This was the most seats ever inspected at events like this run by Albany County, according to a release from the county executive’s office.

A sparse crowd came, despite the rain, for the annual Guilderland Community Festival that raises money for the Rodino family, plagued by Huntington’s disease.

Fruit of the vine, in the form of wine, and fruits from the tree, apples that could be launched or eaten, were celebrated last weekend at the annual festival held at the Altamont fairgrounds.

Community Service Appreciation Week was scheduled to honor local emergency responders during the week of Sept. 11, the anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 2001.

Guilderland Elementary School fifth-graders took on challenging tasks Friday, launching a year-long research project with the University at Albany’s Department of Educational Theory and Practice, under the direction of Associate Professor Jianwei Zhang.

GUILDERLAND — Worthy C. Cox Jr., a quick-witted man who was dedicated to his family and his fire department, died on Monday, Sept. 15, 2014. He was 79.

He went “into the Arms of Our Lord,” wrote his family in a tribute.

Mr. Cox was born in Albany, the son of the late Worthy and Clara (née Bischoff) Cox.

GUILDERLAND — Greulich’s Market, on Carman Road, a neighborhood grocery for 61 years, closed in late July when it faced financial troubles, and this week, owner Bonnie Greulich was arrested for issuing bad checks.

GUILDERLAND — Simon and Edna Litten aren’t living off the grid yet, but they’re getting closer.

The couple lives in a house on Main Street in Altamont and had solar panels installed on the south-facing roof of their barn four years ago. According to Mrs. Litten, they expect the system to have paid for itself by 2020.
