At the annual Chamber of Commerce gala, businesses were honored for making Guilderland more beautiful and their owners were lauded for leadership and kindness.

Each year, in what looks like it could be a session from the United Nations, students who have come to school at Guilderland from many foreign lands, gather together with their families for a shared meal.

Five of the 2015 Letterman Scholarship winners are actually letterwomen; the sixth is a traditional letterman.

GUILDERLAND — Raymond Alfred Rafferty, a World War II veteran, died peacefully at home on Friday, June 5, 2015. He was 94.

Mr. Rafferty was the son of the late Francis Rafferty and Anna Hammond Rafferty of Albany.

He was a 1938 graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy.

Visitors to the Schoolcraft Cultural Center on Sunday perused artwork, and went back in time listening to the classical sounds of of flute, played by Caitlin Ippolito, and guitar, by Marcello Iaia.

Raising money was the goal, jailbreak was the game last Friday afternoon at Guilderland Elementary in Guilderland to help raise funds to fight cystic fibrosis, a genetic disorder that often affects the lungs. Two Guilderland students — second-grader Avery Schorr, and fourth-grader Braeden Schorr — have cystic fibrosis.

GUILDERLAND — One of the great things about Boy Scouts is watching these young men take on leadership roles and be very successful at it.  Case in point was a recent trip by a group of Scouts from Troop 50 in Guilderland.

GUILDERLAND — In order to continue our strong programs — in 2014, we facilitated the spay and neuter of 755 cats and 154 dogs — we need the support of our community.
