GUILDERLAND — Vendor and crafters are wanted for the second annual fair to be held by the Westmere Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the firehouse at 1741 Western Avenue.

An average of 26 dogs per year are rescued and adopted through the organization, which operates solely on donations.

Jean Cataldo, the town clerk, who is also a Democrat, said there is a minimum requirement of 10 posted notifications for a caucus.

The judging process at the fair can seem opaque, but it actually encourages entrants to do a job well.

Eating through the Altamont Fair is a great way to see the sights. From nachos to Jamaican food to wine slushies, fair food moves with the times while still offering classics like funnel cakes and barbecue.

The old machine has been tucked over in the back corner of a barn on the Altamont fairgrounds for years now, according to volunteer Andy Tinning.
