The Annual St. Baldrick's event was held at Westmere Fire Department on March 20 to raise $85,986.54 dollars for the Melodies Center at Albany Medical Center for children with cancer and blood disorders.

Little hero: Wearing a gold superhero’s cape, a girl who battled cancer stands on the stage at the Westmere firehouse Sunday afternoon after arriving, with other cancer survivors, by fire truck and entering the firehouse on a red carpet. Family and friends of childhood cancer patients as well as Albany Medical Center staff raised $85,986.54 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation at the event.

Happy times: A beautician from Scissors III salon shares a smile as she shaves a woman’s head Sunday to raise money for the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer & Blood Disorders at Albany Medical Center at the St. Baldrick’s event held at Westmere Fire Department in Guilderland. AMC registered nurse Holly Fortin organized the event with Melodies Center parent Josh Lare, Altamont firefighter Kyle Haines, and volunteer Kelly Clickner, also a registered nurse.

First responders show their love for the little children who are battling or just battled cancers as all town of Guilderland fire departments parade down Rapp Road towards Western Avenue to head to Westmere Fire Department for the annual St. Baldrick’s event.

Cheering for kids who battled cancer as they came off a fire truck, the crowd watches and snaps photos as the kids make a grand red-carpet entrance to the Westmere firehouse. A parade of firefighting vehicles had transported them from Crossgates Mall to the firehouse.
