When fire takes a home or a business, it can take a long time to rebuild.

The Board of Education needs to decide whether the 200-year-old original Cobblestone Schoolhouse that was the district’s first school building is worth keeping — and spending $50,000 to repair — if it does not have a pressing practical purpose.

The Albany County Sheriff’s Office is in the process of bringing all first responders in the county onto the same 800-megahertz system. Guilderland has budgeted $300,000 to outfit its communications center with the equipment needed to use the system.

ALTAMONT — Altamont resident Victor Tomelden has been named STRIDE Adaptive Sports Athlete of the year.

Tomelden graduated from Guilderland High School last year and is now a student at Landmark College in Putney, Vermont. He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts.

The establishment at 5180 Western Turnpike in Guilderland was closed for more than a year since it was damaged by fire in September 2016

Other Guilderland schools may follow the Lesley University training that has lifted Lynnwood’s test scores.

Allan Simpson

Allan Simpson was the last choice of voters in May, but the first choice of the board of education in November.
