Ed Frank teaches serious lessons during DWI Awareness Month

ALTAMONT — Five hundred and ninety shoes will be displayed throughout December at the community center on Gun Club Road as part of a program to highlight DWI Awareness Month.

NEW SCOTLAND — Days after a near-death train and car collision, town officials, the state Department of Transportation, and railroad company CSX agreed to close the Youmans Road railroad crossing.

GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland Chamber of Commerce is moving to “the hub of Guilderland,” says a release from the organization.

Moving the chamber to a central location, with visibility from Western Avenue, was a top priority for Kathy Burbank when she became executive director in 2007, the release says.

GUILDERLAND — The summer months were sluggish for Dan Quaglieri, whose glands were swollen from mononucleosis.

Artist Will Moses will spend Christmas Eve working a shift on the local rescue squad.

“There’s something kind of unique about going to people’s homes in a time of need for them,” he said.

WESTERLO — The town’s preliminary budget for 2009 totals at about $2.5 million, up about $100,000 from this year’s $2.4 million budget. About $992,000 is to be raised by taxes, $10,000 more than for this year’s budget.
