With the late-in-the-week addition of a performance by “American Idol” contestant Madison VanDenburg, Altamont Fair organizers concluded another successful Fair Week in spite of poor weather.  

As thunder storms swept through Altamont Sunday night, lightning struck a house, setting it on fire. 

Rensselaerville catalpa tree fallen

A tall and ancient catalpa tree has fallen at the former inn, Catalpa House, in the Rensselaerville hamlet.

County Executive Daniel McCoy has urged people to stay off the roads to allow plow operators to clear the lanes and to be safe Friday.

KNOX — An ever-reliable source of holiday good cheer — and of some fine-looking Christmas trees, mainly spruce —  will be sadly missed this Christmas of 2016.

This summer’s drought has dried even wetlands, raising concerns from at least one resident, although experts say it’s part of a natural cycle for wetlands.

John MacDonald, of 153 Altamont Road in Voorheesville, said that the wetland behind his house was “as dry as I’ve seen it in the 18 years we’ve been here.”
