Photo: Rensselaerville's Ancient Catalpa Falls Gracefully

A tall and ancient catalpa tree has fallen at the former inn, Catalpa House, in the Rensselaerville hamlet. Lori Kelley, who owns and lives at Catalpa House, said that the tree “fell very gracefully,” and slowly, hitting only the power lines. The tree fell into the intersection of routes 85 and 351 on at 8 p.m. Monday night in the midst of a fierce rainstorm, she said. Another catalpa tree was planted on the property in anticipation of the older tree dying. “It lived a full life,” Kelley said of the fallen tree. “It lived a good life.”
