Photos: Snowstorm hits Upstate

County Executive Daniel McCoy has urged people to stay off the roads to allow plow operators to clear the lanes and to be safe Friday. Governor Andrew Cuomo has issued a travel advisory for all areas north of New York City requesting limited travel due to dangerous conditions on roadways in most of upstate New York.

National Grid customers who have lost power are urged to call 800 465-1212  or to go online http://ngrid.com/1f0yeOf. National Grid says, “The harsh weather conditions are expected to last into Saturday morning, bringing the potential for further outages,” and reminds people not to touch downed wires. As of 6:30 p.m. on Friday, 363,000 households across the state were without power — with 4,179 of those in Albany County, according to the governor's office.

Roads are largely empty in Altamont on Friday afternoon as heavy snow continues to pile up in Albany County. County Executive Daniel McCoy has urged people to stay off the roads to allow plow operators to clear the lanes and to be safe. Governor Andrew Cuomo has issued a travel advisory for all areas north of New York City requesting limited travel due to dangerous conditions on roadways in most of upstate New York. The city of Albany has declared a snow emergency, beginning at 8 a.m. on March 3, in order to clear the roads.
