We would like to take this opportunity to commend both the East Berne and Berne volunteer fire departments for their unbelievably quick response to a 911 call to a fire at our home.

To the Editor:

New Scotland Town-wide Volunteer Day needs volunteers for Saturday, May 2. With over a dozen projects reaching from the village of Voorheesville to Feura Bush and places in between, we need volunteers to commit to helping make the day a success.

Women wore jewelry and corsages as they viewed scrapbooks at the 50th anniversary celebration of the New Salem Department Auxiliary last Saturday.

A longtime New Salem volunteer was honored while preschool children worked together to collect pajamas and books to be used for children who need them.

All of the nearly 1,000 private pilots who have been approved to work with Angel Flight Northeast volunteer their time and fuel and use their own planes for the flights, which Angel Flight refers to as “missions.”

Anyone in need of transport to medical treatment can apply, and many patients are referred by social workers, doctors, civic organizations, or even through word-of-mouth from other patients.            

Volunteer squads and town leaders generally agree to a plan to put a paid emergency medical technician on call in the Hilltowns, but some worry about squashing volunteer spirit and logistical considerations.

Jean Forti Day in the Knox Town Park on Saturday will raise funds for Forti's medical expenses. She was diagnosed with liver cancer in May and will undergo surgery on July 2.

Two citizens have devoted themselves to keeping Guilderland's water clean, seeing that toxins buried by the Army in town are contained. Others should join them in the work ahead, drafting a regional plan to protect the reservoir.
