Sue Britton, a long-time member of her local American Legion Auxiliary unit in Rensselaerville, has recently completed a months-long search for photos of armed forces members whose names are engraved at the Vietnam War memorial. 

Steve Oliver, president of the Helderberg Chapter of the American Legion Riders Post 977, on Saturday became one of just 120 people in the country to ever receive the national organization’s highest tribute, the American Legion Rider of Honor award.

Patriot Guard Riders, led by Don Miller, gathered in New Scotland beneath the Helderbergs on Sunday afternoon to honor Art Hamilton, a World War II Navy veteran who served during the D-Day invasion at Normandy.

GUILDERLAND — Two events last week honored Major General Harold J. Greene of Guilderland, who was killed in Afghanistan on Aug. 5, 2014.

Efforts to rename a road for Major General Harold Greene in his hometown of Guilderland uncovered a little-known fact — that Route 20 is already dedicated, to the memory of a disabled veterans’ organization.

The Memorial Day Parade in Berne will have veterans and active-duty military members marching or riding in the parade for the first time this year. One veteran who will be partaking helped bring the parade to fruition during its first year.

 


Trustee Richard Straut, newly elected to his appointed post, plans to continue the work he has started  — on water, sidewalks, and helping to develop a comprehensive plan for the village.
