The Berne-Knox-Westerlo board will decide in November whether to increase the exemption and, if it does vote to increase it, by how much.

The top line in the $1.6 million preliminary budget proposed by Supervisor Vasilios Lefkaditis calls for a 16-percent cut in town spending compared to the 2016  budget.

The proposed plan for Guilderland for 2017 is down $43,000 from last year. The tax rate is unchanged from last year.

The proposed 2017 budget for New Scotland awaits discussion in three public sessions before being adopted. 

BKW Business Manager Sarah Blood told The Enterprise that the erroneous bills were sent to 325 property owners in Westerlo.

The Knox assessor says each household in Knox would pay $38 annually to make up for lost tax revenues if the property were exempt.

Those who work most closely with property values in Guilderland say it would be cost-prohibitive to undergo a town-wide revaluation.
