BETHLEHEM — This rapidly developing suburban town, next to the state’s capital, plans to protect 300 acres of farmland from two farms that have been operating since the Revolutionary War.

The Berne Planning Board held one workshop last month, and will host another on June 16 at 7 p.m.

Developer Armand Quadrini recently submitted an application to the town of Guilderland proposing a Planned Unit Development on five parcels from 2298 to 2314 Western Ave., including the site of the former Master Cleaners, currently designated a brownfield by the state’s Department of Conservation.

On June 1, Guilderland’s zoning board said Town Center plaza could no longer use its LED sign for three displays that were not previously approved by the board.

Carman Road between Wayto Road, home to Dunkin’ Donuts, and Marra Lane, the location of a number of apartment complexes, will be closed from Friday, June 3, at 8 p.m., until Monday, June 6, at 6 a.m., as will the access road leading to the I-890/I-90 interchange, according to a release from the state’s transportation department.

At the May 17 town board meeting, Guilderland Supervisor Peter Barber told board members that he hopes to present them with a request for proposals in June for a contractor to run the comprehensive plan process for the town.

Store signs became a bone of contention between Jonathan Phillips of Phillips Hardware and the Guilderland Coalition for Responsible Growth.

On May 3, Mayor Kerry Dineen along with Trustees Nicholas Fahrenkopf and John Scally approved the seven new members of Altamont’s zoning board and an alternate, with one alternate yet to be named.

Berne Town Hall

Berne building inspector Jonathan Heigel is not qualified to issue building permits for construction projects without the approval of a code-enforcement officer, but granted some to the town and Berne Town Board member Albert Thiem anyway.

On June 7, Business for Good will propose demolishing buildings at 40 and 43 South Main St. — it already took down the old Stewart’s at 42 South Main Street — and replacing them with a tavern, café, and parking lot
