New York State’s Maple Weekend is celebrating its 20th year on March 21 to 22, and March 28 to 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. During both weekends, producers from across the state will welcome families to their farms to see firsthand how real maple syrup is made.

NEW SCOTLAND — The Collar Laundry Union of Troy, organized in early 1864 by Kate Mullany, a 19-year-old Irish immigrant, was to become the nation’s first truly all-women labor union.

VOORHEESVILLE — Local artist Elizabeth Zunon will talk about her work as a book illustrator and lead a collage-making event for children at the Voorheesville Public Library on Saturday afternoon.

The filmmaking brothers from Altamont, Frank and Zach Appio, will compete against their RPI professor in the competition.

RENSSELAERVILLE — A set of three short stories will be brought to life, narrated by three New York City actors in the historic Conkling Hall at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15.

Sweet cakes, pies, and other treats made by community members will be proffered with coffee at the performance, titled “Shorts and Sweets.”

The 12-year-old Greenville student who died last month was undergoing treatment for a brain tumor when the July 19 event was scheduled by the Medusa Volunteer Fire Company.
