RENSSELAERVILLE — Artists from around the world will gather in August at The Carey Institute for Global Good in the Helderbergs for the Catskill High Peaks Music Festival.

This weekend, artists and groups with musical traditions spanning the globe will converge on the fairgrounds in Altamont, for the 35th annual Old Songs Festival.

Visitors to the Schoolcraft Cultural Center on Sunday perused artwork, and went back in time listening to the classical sounds of of flute, played by Caitlin Ippolito, and guitar, by Marcello Iaia.

The Voorheesville native whose parents were both music teachers, the 35-year-old won a Boston/New England Emmy for live audio engineering on a talent show.

Through a wide variety of musical selections ranging from classical to pop, the Depot Lane Singers in an upcoming spring concert will pay homage to cities, to the United States, to composers, to performers, to emotions, and to the seasons.

Scenes of musicians preparing and rehearsing for their New York State School Music Association evaluations could be seen at the Voorheesville high school last week.

Students were out and about, signing at the Empire State Plaza as a form of light lobbying in Albany on Monday, and constructing a refuge in Schenectady as part of a BOCES Career and Technical Education program.

The fifth annual Capital District Brain Injury Awareness Day was held at Tawasentha Park in Guilderland last week, where the audience was treated to music from The Brainwaves.
