For 52 years — he scarcely missed a single Sunday — Wally Quay has played the organ for worshippers at the church where he was baptized as a baby.

NEW SCOTLAND — “Old Silver Leg,” about Pieter Stuyvesant in the New World, is a musical program to be presented on June 17 by “Ankie, Nanne & Tseard,” a group of three folksingers from Friesland in the Netherlands.

The Sound of Music will be performed March 7 through 9 at the middle school, 6072 State Farm Rd. in Guilderland.

Their fourth album — named 10 Years 2Late because, they joke, they are “10 years too late for a major recording contract” — consists of 14 original songs, about relationships, including budding relationships; full-blown love; and break-up songs.

To the Editor:

Every now and again, Earth is graced with an extraordinary person — one who makes such a huge positive impact upon the world as to leave an indelible mark of goodness, and an aching void of sadness in the wake of his departure from this life.

Guilderland's  music supervisor credits teachers, parents and the community for the program's success as the high school was named a Grammy semi-finalist for the fifth year in a row.

ALTAMONT — The Altamont Community Tradition organization will host its 12th annual Victorian Holiday Celebration in the village next weekend, offering house tours, shopping, wine tastings, and a visit from Santa.

BERNE — On Dec. 5, Christmas concert-goers here can listen to distinctively American music with African roots — jazz.

This is appropriate since the concert will benefit a native Hilltowner’s mission to help save the tree in Tanzania from which the clarinet comes, and also to teach Tanzanians to play the instrument she loves.

The holiday season is here and so is the music that goes with it.

Parents teach children the songs that they know and love. Popular carols are translated into many different languages. No matter the age, no matter the culture, the tune is familiar, and the message is the same: The holidays are here; it’s time to celebrate.

The music in the Westerlo Reformed Church on Sunday afternoon had people clapping, laughing, crying, and pondering with eyes closed, watered, or wide. The pews creaked beneath the mostly silent but enthusiastic congregation. Pale pink light shone through stained glass windows on Sept.
