Both candidates vying to represent western Guilderland and part of the Hilltowns in the Albany County Legislature live in Knox.

Between two candidates for two school board seats, the person with the most votes will fill a four-year term, and the person with the second most will take a three-year position.

The three women up for re-election on Guilderland's school board are citing personal rather than political reasons as each decides whether or not to seek another term.

Florence Reddy, the first woman to serve on the village board in over a decade, owns a deli with her husband, and Brett Hotaling owns landscaping and storage businesses.

ALTAMONT — Cathy Glass, a newcomer to politics, and incumbent Christine Marshall are running in an uncontested election for village trustee on March 18.

Glass, 48, a homemaker, said she's running as a long-time resident who hopes to “make a little bit of a difference.”

Local school administrators weigh in on proposition No. 3 on the Nov. 4 ballot, which asks voters whether the state should use a large bond to invest in new technology used in school districts.

Kenneth Weaver, who resigned from the post in September, confronted the town's supervisor publicly because his health insurance had been canceled, but the supervisor pointed to a provision in the employee handbook making Weaver ineligible after 2013.

After a townwide letter was mailed to residents and an informational meeting held, the Knox fire commissioners are opening the polls for a second time, seeking permission to sell a tanker truck.

Edward Hampton, a highway worker, is now filling in after the highway superintendent stepped down. Local party committees say Hampton and Randy Bashwinger will be on the ballot in the November election.
