elections

Albany County’s Independence and Conservative parties have each endorsed a slate of Berne candidates, including those running against one another. In Knox, the Independence Party endorsed a slate of candidates already endorsed by the town’s Democratic Party, but two Republican-backed candidates are on the ballot, as well.

GUILDERLAND — The incumbent Democratic slate in Guilderland — Peter Barber for supervisor and Patricia Slavick and Paul Pastore for town board — has been endorsed by the town’s largest small parties, the Conservative and Independence parties.

Both Republicans and Democrats nominated a full slate of candidates, including for town supervisor, highway superintendent, and two seats on the town board.

Kevin Flensted and Richard Filkins are running for the seats currently occupied by Democrats Joseph Boone and William Bichteman.

Timothy Horan, election night

GUILDERLAND — Timothy Horan, a 30-year career teacher set to retire at the end of the school year, won over 25 percent of the vote, making him the clear frontrunner in a five-way race for three school board seats.

“Real good night,” said Horan after the tally was announced Tuesday night.

Amy Pokorny, Vasilios Lefkaditis

Although elections are half-a-year away, two candidates have announced they are running for Knox town supervisor: Vasilios Lefkaditis, the current supervisor, and Amy Pokorny, a town councilwoman.

A week before the Guilderland school board election, one candidate faces a lawsuit.

A long-time board member, C. James Coffin, and a newcomer, Robert Samson, are guaranteed seats on the Voorheesville School Board as no one else is in the running.

Petitions are due on April 17 for candidates seeking seats on Voorheesville school and library boards. Two incumbents have announced they are running — C. James Coffin for the school board and Janna Shillinglaw for the library board.
