As July fades into memory, August drifts forward and brings with it the Word of the Month Club.

Walking out to retrieve the open flag for shutting down the library last Friday night provided a flurry of activity to entertain the senses.

Spread the Word!  The Friends of the Berne Library are sponsoring a Scrabble Fundraiser at the Berne Public Library on Saturday, May 16, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Play two games of Scrabble and enjoy refreshments between games.  There will be prizes for the highest scorers.

BERNE — A box draped in a white sheet was a transformative device on the floor of the Berne library. In went a gray-haired man after reading a book, and out crawled a baby boy.

Children trailing colorful balloons carted picture books down Helderberg Trail in wagons and wheelbarrows, accompanied by their relatives, to the new home of the Berne Public Library on Oct. 19. They ran, rode, and strolled from the old library at Town Hall to their resting place inside the former St.

The first fair at the Altamont Fairgrounds was 120 years ago in 1893 according to the website www.altamontfair.com.
