ALTAMONT — The public is warmly invited to attend the Sunday, April 12, special worship service at the Altamont Reformed Church, starting at 10:30 a.m.

ALTAMONT — The Altamont Stewart’s Shop wants to expand. A local property owner and Stewart’s entered a sales contract that could give the store room to grow, but local residents voiced their opposition to the expansion at Tuesday’s Altamont Village Board meeting.

ALTAMONT —The Southern Poverty Law Center, an internationally known organization that tracks the activities of hate groups in the United States, has put Altamont on the map — the Hate Map.

Published last month in the center’s Spring 2015 “Intelligence Report,” and posted online at its website, www.splcenter.org, the Hate Map for 2014 lists Altamont as the only location in New York State to have an active chapter of the Ku Klux Klan.

For the owners of four different buildings along Maple Avenue near Main Street in Altamont, warmer weather can’t come soon enough. They have been without running water for about four weeks, ever since their pipes froze.  

Altamont's newest justice, James Greene, has served on the planning board since 2010.

ALTAMONT — Bill Aylward remembers the night the whole village showed up at his house. It was Election Night in 1971, and he had just won his first race for mayor.

ALTAMONT — Cathy Glass, a newcomer to politics, and incumbent Christine Marshall are running in an uncontested election for village trustee on March 18.

Glass, 48, a homemaker, said she's running as a long-time resident who hopes to “make a little bit of a difference.”

Glenn Hebert will work on-site in Altamont for five hours a week, costing the village $10,335 per year.

St. John’s Lutheran Church at 140 Maple Ave. in Altamont will hold the following services:
Beginning with Ash Wednesday, Feb. 18, and continuing to Good Friday, April 3, the St. John's congregation will focus on a biblical parable at each service that connects to the overall penitential theme of Lent.

ALTAMONT — Two men that police say have problems with heroin are suspected in an attempted burglary of the village’s self-service laundry.

One suspect has been charged and is out on bail, and another has been identified but not yet apprehended, according to Altamont police.
