St. John's focuses on parables for Lent

St. John’s Lutheran Church at 140 Maple Ave. in Altamont will hold the following services:
Beginning with Ash Wednesday, Feb. 18, and continuing to Good Friday, April 3, the St. John's congregation will focus on a biblical parable at each service that connects to the overall penitential theme of Lent.

At the Ash Wednesday service the parable will be, "The Pharisee and the Tax Collector," based on Luke 18:9-14. Holy Communion will be offered at this service. This service starts at 7 p.m.

At the 11 a.m. service on Sunday, Feb. 22 the parable will be the “Sower and the Seed” based on Matthew 13:1-8; 18-23. An informal worship opportunity will also be offered on that day at 8:30 a.m. The same parable will be studied, but there will be guided discussion in place of a traditional sermon.

Sunday school is at 9:45 a.m.
