Berne Highway Superintendent Randy Bashwinger said that the highway department followed the proper protocol when closing the section of Bridge Road where a vehicle recently upended itself, but Councilman Joel Willsey has written in a letter to the Enterprise editor this week that flaggers or barriers should have been in place to prevent an accident like this.

A crowd of around 30 people was waiting outside the Rensselaerville Town Hall for the arraignment of Harley A. Kelly, the driver in a June car crash that killed Emily Fydenkevez. Some were friends or family of Fydenkevez; others were there for Kelly; but several had known both of the 19-year-old Middleburgh residents, who were said to be friends.

Guilderland Police confirmed the fatality at 1:17 p.m. on Monday and were investigating, a CSX spokesperson wrote in an email to The Enterprise, adding, “It is important to remember how critical it is to steer clear of railroad tracks and active operations.”

The drivers of both vehicles were taken to hospitals, said Deputy Chief Curtis Cox of the Guilderland Police.

GUILDERLAND — On Wednesday morning, two cars collided on Route 20, at its intersection with Windingbrook Drive, sending five people to Albany Medical Center, with apparently serious injuries, according to a release from the Guilderland Police.

RENSSELAERVILLE — A single-car crash in Rensselaerville early Sunday morning has left one Middleburgh young woman dead and another injured, according to a report from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.

It’s been a year since Roger Sawyer of Guilderland died on his bicycle, hit by a sport-utility vehicle as he headed to work before dawn.

A car crashed at the intersection of Beebe Road and Knox-Gallupville Road, leaving a 22-year-old from Altamont dead and a 23-year-old injured.

The driver, who was surrounded by both full and empty beer cans at the crash site, was charged with driving while intoxicated. Police are pursuing further criminal charges while investigating the crash that killed a Berne woman.
