Soldier On needs you

To the Editor:

The Altamont American Legion Riders Post 977 is hosting our second annual Poker Run on Aug. 23.

This year, we are raising funds to support the Soldier On project. This organization is dedicated to providing housing, education, counseling, and career assistance to the veterans of our region. There is a current movement to create a campus here in Albany (www.WeSoldierOn.org).

Last year, we raised $10,000 for the Wounded Warrior project. Our goal is to meet or, better yet, exceed that.

If it touches your heart, as it does mine, there are several ways to participate.

To join our ride, registration is at 10 a.m. at the Voorheesville Fire Department, 12 Altamont Rd. (Route 158) in Voorheesville. Kickstands go up at noon. The cost is $25 per person. The ride ends at the Altamont American Legion Post 977 at 988 Altamont Blvd. in Altamont.

Come to the post after the ride to join us for dinner and dancing with a donation at the door of $25 per person.

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor any donation of $150 or more, promotes your business on our support banner. This is displayed during the run, and for several weeks after.

In appreciation, two dinners will be gifted to sponsors. Call Rich Perras at 369-4812 or Steve Olsveer at 312-2350.

Make donations at the post any day after 4 p.m. or by mail.

Please make checks payable to the American Legion Riders Post 977 and mail to the Post Office Box 461, Altamont, NY 12009.

We will not be collecting on the street or door-to-door. They fought for us; we will fight for them.
