RENSSELAERVILLE — A Rensselaer man was charged on Monday with reckless endangerment and five counts of endangering the welfare of a child after, police say, he hit a school bus.

A release from the State Police says that events  unfolded this way:

On Monday morning, Oct. 27, at about 7:26, Curtis L. Williams, 20, was, according to witnesses, driving fast as he headed south on Route 145 when he crossed over into the normbound lane and hit a school bus.

The Middleburgh Central bus had a driver, an adult attendant, and five children. After Williams hit the bus, his car turned over, striking a utility pole.

Although one child and Williams reported minor injuries neither were transported to a hospital.

Until 11:30 a.m., Route 145 between Fox Creek Road and Route 81 was closed for the investigation and for the utility pole to be repaired.

Williams was issued an appearance ticket, returnable to the Rensselaerville Town Court on Nov. 10, and released.

The State Police thank the Middleburgh Central School District and the Tri-Village Volunteer Fire Department for their “quick action and cooperation during the investigation.”
