Waterford man charged with attempted assault

RENSSELAERVILLE — A Waterford man was arrested on Saturday, April 11, after, police say, he attempted to stab another man and then hit him with his vehicle as he fled.

Anthony Pappalau, 47, was charged with second-degree attempted assault, a felony, and with three misdemeanors: second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree menacing, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The domestic incident between two male family members occurred on Jubilee Road in Rensselaerville, according to a release from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.

Pappalau tried to stab the other man with a knife, the release said, and then struck him in the leg as he drove away.

The victim refused care from emergency medical services who were on the scene.

Pappalau was found and detained by Rotterdam Police before being transferred to Albany County custody.

He was arraigned in Rensselaerville Town Court on Sunday morning, April 12.
