State Police: Drunk UTV driver hits pickup truck
BERNE — A Berne man is due in town court this week on charges of reckless endangerment and driving while intoxicated.
Thomas Murphy, 40, was arrested on Aug. 16 after, police say, he intentionally drove a side-by-side Utility Terrain Vehicle into a pickup truck.
“Murphy was operating the UTV recklessly while following multiple vehicles traveling southbound on Bradt Hollow Road,” according to a release from State Police who answered a call at about 9:09 p.m. on Aug. 16.
Murphy struck the truck with his UTV many times, causing $10,000 worth of damage “before losing control of the UTV and crashing off the roadway,” the release said, adding that the driver of the truck did not know Murphy.
Murphy sustained serious injuries and was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment. No one else was injured.
Murphy was charged with two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal mischief, driving while intoxicated, and many other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.
He was processed on Aug. 22 at the State Police headquarters in New Scotland and scheduled to appear in Berne Town Court on Sept. 9.
