The state police raided the Bethlehem Center hotel recently. They seized 2 slot machines, took them to Martin’s blacksmith shop and sledged them in pieces. Between $11 and $12 were found in them which was turned over to the poor fund of the town. The proprietor was brought before Judge William Comstock who promptly fined him $50.

BERNE
While emptying the acetylene light plant for the Reformed church Floyd Barber had the misfortune to slip and cause the contents of a pail of carbide to slop up in his face, some going in his eye. He was immediately taken to the hospital where he was treated. Although he can see very little out of that eye now, the doctor thinks the sight will be fully restored in a short time. His many friends hope for a speedy recovery.
VILLAGE NOTES
— Monday morning the folks of the hill villages of Albany county had a pleasant surprise upon tumbling out of their warm beds to find it snowing and the thermometer within a few degrees of the freezing point. In fact, in some sections there was thin ice and the snow was from two to three inches deep. The cool weather remained for several days.
— A club to be known as the Helderberg Rod and Gun club was organized Thursday night with 25 charter members. The purpose of the club will be to protect fish and game in the vicinity and to see that the streams and lakes nearby are kept stocked with fish and the forests with game. All good sportsmen are invited to join the club whether they are residents or non-residents of Altamont.
— The work of the reconstruction of the Altamont hill road, which was delayed last week with the loss of about twenty laborers, made a little progress by the addition of a few Italian workmen this week. The contractors expect to start the concrete work next month.
