GUILDERLAND

The school had a Christmas tree on Friday afternoon of this week.

GAMES FORFEITED

The Altamont Boy Scouts were disappointed last Friday night when it was learned that Troop 12 of Albany, whom the Scouts were planning to play that evening, would not appear because of inability to obtain a way to reach Altamont.

Tonight the Boy Scouts had a game scheduled with the Middleburgh High school second team, but the game has been called off because the Middleburgh team cannot get here on account of the icy roads.

MARIAVILLE
— Clinton Mott in turning out to avoid hitting a child leading a horse, skidded into the ditch on the slippery road Sunday night and broke a wheel on his car.

— Supervisor G. L. Peeke was at the Ellis Hospital, Monday looking after a charge from this town, a young Italian boy.

— Bert Van Buren had all of his chickens and his car stolen a few nights ago. The sheriff located the man and secured the loot. The man is awaiting trial. His name is May Party; he had recently bought a lot of Bert Van Buren and was building a camp.

DELANSON

Mrs. Rebecca Hall is very poorly at this writing. Her death is expected at any time.

VILLAGE NOTES

— The promised severe cold wave did not arrive with the severity expected from reports of a great storm in the lake region of the north and west. But we did get a light rain with freezing temperatures on Thursday night and Friday morning, coating trees, sidewalks and highways with ice, which made walking quite an athletic exercise. Several automobiles came to grief by the skidding process.

— Many desire to make “money” gifts at Christmas time, and for this purpose the First National Bank of Altamont has secured a supply of $5 and $10 gold pieces, and “brand new” one and five-dollar bills. Cashier Ogsbury says, “If you want a few of each, don’t delay.” Of course, you understand, they are not given away.

NEW SALEM, SOUTH END

On Wednesday night of last week thieves visited Mr. Edgar Cook and took away six sheep which were all he had. As yet no trace of the thieves have been found. This is not the first time that Mr. Cook’s premises have been visited by thieves.

GUILDERLAND CENTER
LUTHERAN CHURCH NOTES

The children’s party for Saturday afternoon as announced last week, is called off because of scarlet fever in the village. We are sorry to disappoint the children, but it is for the best.

CLARKSVILLE

— Clark De Long had the misfortune to fall from a barrel on which he was standing, breaking several ribs.

— Master Arthur Aldrich miraculously escaped being killed by a threshing machine, the wheels of which he prevented from passing over his body by rolling on his side and lying still. He escaped with two crushed fingers which, after being X-rayed in the Albany hospital, were dressed by Dr. Browne of Delmar. The patient is doing nicely at present.
