GPD says teen discarded gun as he ran from crash

GUILDERLAND — A May 17 car crash led to a felony gun arrest.
Guilderland Police responded to a crash with injuries near Route 20 and Church Road where a Jeep was reported to have rear-ended another car after which the people in the Jeep fled the scene on foot.

A release from the Guilderland Police said officers approached an unnamed 16-year-old boy from Troy who discarded a loaded Glock 9 millimeter handgun as he was chased; he was caught near Woodlake Apartments.

He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, and with second-degree obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor.

His name is being withheld because of his age. He was arraigned in the Youth Part of the Superior Court and released to the custody of his parents.

The people in the car that was hit suffered minor injuries and were treated by Guilderland Emergency Medical Services.
