Guilderland to present on revaluation

GUILDERLAND — Town officials will hold a presentation, at three different locations, on the upcoming town-wide revaluation and will answer any questions from residents:

— Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Fort Hunter firehouse, 2525 Carman Road from 7 to 8:30 p.m.;

— Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Grace Baptist Church, 5958 State Farm Road at 9 a.m.; and

— Thursday, Jan. 3, at the Altamont Village Hall Community Room, 115 Main Street, Altamont at 7 p.m.

The town held an introductory session about this topic in June and July, and showed a PowerPoint presentation that is now available on the town website.

Guilderland had not conducted a town-wide revaluation since 2005.

A new equalization rate of 82.94 percent set by the state’s Department of Taxation and Finance for Guilderland for the 2018-19 school year meant that residents who live in Guilderland but whose homes are in school districts on the edges of the town in other school districts saw their school-tax rates go up dramatically: 12 percent for those in the Voorheesville school district, almost 17 percent for Schalmont, and more than 12 percent for South Colonie.

Last year’s rate for Guilderland was 75.5 percent. The year before that, it was 88 percent.
