LOCAL BREVITIES.
A band of gypsies attempted to camp out on the Terry property near the Oliver road D. & H. crossing Saturday, but they were ordered to move on. They had with them a big black bear.
VILLAGE NOTES.
— Slight frost was reported from sections of the Helderbergs and in the Pine Bush, north of Guilderland, on Thursday morning. No material damage was done at any place.
— On Tuesday morning Edward Becker, while going over Park street, dropped a roll of bills amounting to more than $100. The loss was not discovered until some time later. On Wednesday the money was returned to Mr. Becker by Mrs. Stephen LaGrange, who had picked it up in front of her home on Park street. Mr. Becker had almost given up the money as a total loss.

Mrs. Royal A. Bristol, impersonator and elocutionist, will give an entertainment on Wednesday evening, July 3, at the Reformed church hall, for the benefit of the Red Cross. Entertainment at 8:30 p.m. Ice cream and cake will be served. Admission, 25 cents.
COMMENCEMENT WEEK BEGINS FRIDAY, JUNE 21
Commencement week in the Altamont High school will begin this Friday afternoon, when the graduating exercise for the graded department of the school will be held in the assembly hall. The exercises will commence promptly at 2:30 o’clock.
WAR STAMP DRIVE
WILL BEGIN JUNE 21.
Mass Meeting to Be Held at Masonic Hall, Altamont, on Friday Evening.
The War Savings Stamp campaign in Altamont during the week of June 22-28, which is a part of the big nation-wide drive to pledge the purchase of the full War Savings Stamp allotment of two billion dollars before Jan. 1, 1919, will be opened on Friday evening of this week, when a public meeting will be held at Masonic hall at 8:15 o’clock.
The speakers will be Hon. James H. Manning, director of the Albany county War Savings Stamp committee, Thomas T. Degnan and James F. Farnham of Albany, who will explain the plan of the campaign and urge all patriotic citizens to put this district “over the top” once more. Everyone should plan to attend this meeting and do their part in helping to raise our War Savings Stamp quota.
Altamont’s Thrift Stamp campaign will be under direction of the women of the Red Cross auxiliary, with George S. Vroman, postmaster, as chairman. Mr. Vroman has named several committees who make a house to house canvass of the Altamont post office district. Every person will be expected to pledge themselves to purchase a specified amount of stamps before the first of January.
