To the Editor:

Prospect Hill Cemetery has long been an historic and community-oriented part of the town of Guilderland. From its beginnings in 1854, it has been a beautiful landmark on the Great Western Turnpike. The cemetery has been a neighbor serving the communities of North Bethlehem, New Scotland, Voorheesville, and Guilderland for more than 160 years.

The Prospect Hill Cemetery Board of Trustees has scheduled a spring cleanup at the cemetery for Saturday, April 28, from 8 a.m. until noon. Volunteers are needed for minor cleanup of the grounds in preparation for Memorial Day.

The mission of the Prospect Hill Cemetery and trustees has been to keep interment cost to the community reasonable and to keep loved ones in our community close to home. The continued support of the community, that the cemetery now serves, is vital to the preservation of this historic landmark.

Memorial Day will soon be here and I invite everyone to visit the cemetery to honor the hundreds of veterans interred on the grounds. Long before Saratoga National Cemetery was created, Prospect Hill Cemetery was and now is the resting place of veterans who served to defend the liberty so many of us in this community should take time to honor.
