Knox should become part of Schoharie County

To the Editor:

Once upon a time, there was a little, mostly farming community, on the outskirts of Albany County known as Knox. At one time, we were known as the “Pillbox Capital.” Business occurred, just as business had always happened — anywhere there was an opportunity to make a little money and help your family and community, also known as home grown businesses.

The reason I am writing is to make a suggestion to our great town board and supervisor and also Mr. [Assemblyman Angelo] Santabarbara and Mr. [Senator George] Amedore: Why doesn't the entire town board and Mr. [Supervisor Vasilios] Lefkaditis resign? (We don't need any of them, since they do nothing but bicker and backbite) and Mr. Santabarbara and Mr. Amedore make a motion to secede to Schoharie County (if they would have us)?

Our taxes would be cut in half and we would be part of a county that we actually have something in common with (farming and home businesses), and discontinue paying superfluous politicians that do nothing. That would be a day I would like to live to see — a politician willing to lose a district of voters for the good of the voters!

We could combine all services with Schoharie County, further cutting down on different boards, different supervisors and their salaries, different school boards, etc.

I believe that I would not be contradicted when I say that most Hilltowners live here for one reason and one reason only — to be left alone! Don't give me the nonsense that people move here for the serenity and a slower way of life. B.S.!

We are losing residents left and right, and gaining blight (abandoned properties that no one does anything about) right and left.  Our property values are worth spit; actually, spit is probably worth more.
