Release your inner drummer on Saturday

To the Editor:

The town of Berne invites you to the Berne Summer MusicFest this Saturday, July 22, from 3 p.m. until dark.

Local bands Kilashandra, The Lazy Sun, TLC Country Cloggers, and the Hilltown Ramblers will perform on stage at the pavilion, and end with a jam session that is open for anyone to participate.

The Children and Families tent will host Children’s Musician Andy Morse at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. In between, performances will be an organized Maori Stick Game with lemme sticks.

At 5:10 p.m., I’ll be leading a bucket drumming circle for all ages — we supply the buckets and sticks; you be prepared to bring out your inner drummer and have a blast creating rhythms. Following that, we’ll be making percussion instruments from recycled and repurposed materials, including a Peruvian spin drum and Cup-O-Joe hand drum, and then using our instruments to participate in a musical storytelling.

Food will be available from Friends of the Berne Library, Switzkill Farm, and Guido’s Ices, and the evening will end with a fireworks display. Directions and a full schedule of events can be found on our website www.townofberne.wixsite.com/summerfest.  Hope to see you there!
