My home again will turn into a Stewart’s
To the Editor:
I’m Dottie Smith Flansburg Wright. I was born at home upstairs of the gas station my father and mother owned in the village of Voorheesville. When I was 3 years old, my parents sold the station to Mr. Frolich, and he later sold it to Stewart’s.
My parents, Frank and Lil Smith, purchased the Cramer House and changed the name to Smith’s Tavern. My father died and my mother moved to Florida when I was 14. I lived upstairs in the tavern until I got married at 19.
My brother took over ownership and I continued to work there for 22 years. He sold Smith’s Tavern and now it has been sold to Stewart’s.
How fitting that now again my home has turned into a Stewart’s. How ironic.
I am happy about Stewart;s as I would rather have ice cream than a beer. When visiting my daughter in Altamont, I always stop at Stewart’s for a hard roll and coffee, and go back again for ice cream.
I wonder if I should put a Stewart;s sign on my home in North Carolina; or maybe that’s for the next owner to do.
