The four-quadrant gate systems, in addition to preventing cars from attempting to maneuver around the crossing stop arms — a feat attempted three times in the past two years — mean train engineers will no longer have to  blow their whistles as they travel over the county-owned roads. 

The lawsuit was filed on Dec. 11 by Thomas and Valerie Newell along with their daughter, Erin. The crux of the case turns on whether the pipe is defined as a water main, which the town would maintain, or a lateral, for which the Newells would be responsible.

SLINGERLANDS — On the morning of Dec. 2, State Police say, a vehicle was stolen in the area of New Scotland Road in Slingerlands and later located, with help from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, on North Manning Avenue in Albany.

Chief Judge Brenda K. Sannes signed the order Dec. 3.

VOORHEESVILLE — The volunteer fire company here has received $27,450 in a federal grant meant to help training, recruitment and retention, and purchasing equipment.

Congressman Paul Tonko announced the 13 federal grants totaling more than $5.45 million in funding for 11 Capital Region fire departments and EMS squads.

In multiple court filings made since first dropping its federal suit in early October, Norfolk Southern has asked for a declaratory judgment stating that federal jurisdiction over the railroad industry preempts Voorheesville’s zoning law.

On Nov. 12, some three dozen residents packed the village fire department’s firehouse on Altamont Road for a public meeting on the fate of the home of Voorheesville’s first mayor. 

Sheriff Apple wrote, “A vehicle attempted to execute a U-turn at an intersection and narrowly averted a fatality as the driver exited the vehicle in a timely manner.”
