Laster named principal of Farnsworth Middle School

GUILDERLAND — Michael Laster is coming home — both physically and philosophically.

Laster, who lives in Guilderland, was appointed principal of Farnsworth Middle School on Tuesday night.

He started his career as a middle-school teacher and is currently the high school principal for Greenville.

“I’ve always been rooted in middle-level education; that’s my core philosophy,” Laster told The Enterprise yesterday.

He will be paid $106,500 annually.

“I’m very happy to be part of the team,” Laster told the school board after its 8-to-0 vote.

The feeling was mutual. Lin Severance, the district’s assistant superintendent for human resources, told The Enterprise that Laster was one of 17 candidates considered for the post. The selection was made by a committee representing teachers, support staff, and administrators. For the final round, where a student was included, too, two candidates were interviewed.
