“One day you were here, the next you were gone,” wrote the family of David ‘Bud’ Spiak in a tribute.

Born on Aug. 23, 1985, he died on Saturday, April 2, 2022, his daughter’s eighth birthday. He was 36.

As health departments in New York State and elsewhere are no longer doing the contact tracing they did for most of the first two years of the pandemic, the federal government has launched a website to help Americans figure out, as individuals, how to deal with COVID-19. The “toolkit” has links to find test-to-treat locations, vaccine sites, and how to order masks and self-administered tests.

A free waterfront lifeguard course will be offered April 19 through 22 in Gloversville.

People who are at least 16 years old and have vision of 20/70 or better interested in lifeguarding positions at Department of Environmental Conservation facilities this summer may register.

GUILDERLAND — “A hunter recently paid a penalty for taking a deer out of season on Christmas Day in Guilderland,” said a Wednesday press release from the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation.

The penalty was $500.
