The Friends of Thacher park hopes to attract families who will teach their children to be stewards of the park for the next generation.

County Executive Daniel McCoy has urged people to stay off the roads to allow plow operators to clear the lanes and to be safe Friday.

These local students have been named to the dean’s list or received a similar honor from their college or university for the fall 2017 semester:

— Jared Anthony Capuano of Altamont at Clemson University in South Carolina where he is majoring in bioengineering;

An Iraq War veteran was charged with a felony; his family says having him arrested was the only option to start treatment for his mental illness.

Altamont and Hilltown residents age 55 and over are welcome to the regular Tuesday luncheons starting at 11:30 a.m. at the St. Lucy/Bernadette Parish Center on Grand Street in Altamont.

While the film “Very Young Girls” portrays girls soliciting on the street, a Capital Region expert on sex trafficking said, “What we see locally is all the marketing on social media.”

The Student Conservation Association is accepting applications for the New York State Excelsior Conservation Corps. Young adults, ages 18 to 25, who live in or attended school in New York and veterans, ages 18 to 28, with no New York affiliation needed, may apply for available positions with the program.

The first of several free-fishing events in New York took place, Saturday, Feb. 17, and Sunday, Feb. 18, when residents and visitors are permitted to fish for free without a fishing license on any of the state's 7,500 lakes and ponds or 70,000 miles of rivers and streams.

Seniors to tour Museum of Glass

The Princetown Seniors are hosting a May 2 trip to the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York.
