NEW SCOTLAND — Starting on Wednesday, Oct. 25, the part of Albany County’s rail trail near the Bender Melon Farm Preserve bridge in New Scotland will be closed periodically over the next six weeks.

Deb Engel, New Scotland’s senior outreach liaison, told the town board at its Oct. 11 meeting that parts for the remaining 2009 vehicle are hard to find. “The exhaust system is completely gone,” she said of the 14-year-old vehicle. “I’m just afraid if it breaks down again, we’ll be without one.”

VOORHEESVILLE —Starting on Monday, Oct. 16, South Main Street (Route 201) in the village of Voorheesville will be closed for railroad-crossing construction.

Work is expected to be completed by Dec. 15.

The dire state of the restaurant industry, with costs and the availability of quality labor going in opposite directions, have led the Voorheesville restaurateur to the difficult decision to close Gracie’s Kitchen. But news of the closure have turned the final days of the eatery into a celebration of the service it brought to the community. 

A jury delivered a guilty verdict Thursday morning in the case of Jacob Klein, who murdered his ex-girlfriend’s husband at the couple’s home in New Scotland last spring. He had been charged with second-degree murder.
