Albany County Legislator and New Scotland Democratic Party Chairman Michael Mackey is being challenged by New Scotland Republican Chairman Timothy Stanton to represent district 38. 

Albany County Legislator Herbert W. Reilly claims Bethlehem officials ignored a bill to protect county water.

New Scotland resident and Watervliet police officer Joshua Spratt, 35, pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree criminal sexual act, a felony, last week, in satisfaction of charges last July of several criminal sexual acts, and a charge of official misconduct, according to a statement from the Albany County District Attorney’s office.

Five candidates are running to fill three seats on the New Scotland Town Council, but several positions — including that of supervisor — remain unopposed for the Nov. 3 election.

VOORHEESVILLE — The seven Greenfiber recycling bins that were a regular source of some income for the village of Voorheesville and for two local churches were removed in September by the company.

NEW SCOTLAND — Arthur N. Applebee, a husband, father, and grandfather, was a leading scholar of literacy and language learning and earned international renown for his seminal work on how students become literate thinkers. He died on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, in New York. He was 69.
