Rensselaerville had not had a contested town board election since 2017, until this year, when Democrats endorsed sociologist Patricia Byrnes against the Republican Party’s Randall Bates, who has previously served on the town board as well as highway superintendent. Both parties endorsed incumbent Brian Wood.

The proposal from Guilderland to essentially take over Knox’s Section 8 housing slots — many of which are unfilled — failed to get enough support among the Knox Town Board to even make it to a vote.

Heavy flooding this weekend washed out a portion of County Route 353 near the Rensselaerville hamlet, damaging a pipe there and causing the county to close the road for repairs, which are expected to be carried out this week, Albany County spokeswoman Mary Rozak told The Enterprise on Monday.

In the span of a few days, the Rensselaerville water district was hit with a broken pipe and two chemical violations. They highlight the need for funding to upgrade the district’s 80-year-old water system, which has been faltering in recent years, and help the town meet eligibility requirements for at least one grant.

Lois M. Klob

GREENVILLE — Lois M. Klob, her family wrote in a tribute, “left this world on Friday, Sept. 29, 2023 at 2:02 p.m. at home surrounded by her family.” She was 90.

She was born at home in Westerlo on Oct. 14, 1932 to the late Ward and Anna (née Vincent) Waldron.

The director of the Rensselaerville Library, Patrick Wynne, told The Enterprise that the library’s new branch in Medusa, in the former public safety building, arose from the organization’s strategic plan, which found through outreach to the town’s hamlets that there “were barriers to use of the library.”

“You compartmentalize,” said Valerie Ackroyd. “You put it out of your head that you're looking for human remains. It’s a job. You have to do your job.”

Westerlo Supervisor Matt Kryzak is unhappy that the headquarters of the Westerlo Rescue Squad, which ceased operations at the end of 2019 but hasn’t yet officially dissolved as an organization, is being used by its membership for storage of personal vehicles instead of something that could benefit the town.
