Steps towards a new town hall

KNOX — As steps are taken towards renovating and expanding its town hall, Knox is paying the $1.3-million price tag piece by piece.

WESTERLO — A fire in town destroyed the home of a family and its tenant last week.

The blaze began at about 2 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 144 Slade Hill Road, under a trailer owned by the Ferguson family.

BERNE — E. Stewart Jones, who has represented former Supreme Court Justice Thomas Spargo during the better part of his decade-long legal battle, is fighting a conflict-of-interest charge that could take him off the case.

BERNE — The Berne-Knox-Westerlo School Board plans to cut close to $850,000 from next year’s budget. The board is currently aiming for a $19.6-million budget, down from this year’s $20.5-million budget. A 3-percent tax levy hike is projected.

KNOX — The town has been reimbursed by the state for another set of wheels at the transfer station, and additional funds received will go towards maintaining Knox’s snow mobile trails.
