Suzannah Lessard gave a reading Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Rensselaerville Library. “Once the world was wide,” she read. “Now we live in collapsed space: the chip in our pocket.” Lessard wrote much of her book in her Rensselaerville cottage and considers the meaning of its landscape and how that sense of place has changed.

RENSSELAERVILLE — On Sunday, Aug. 18, Rensselaerville ride will be part of the  Hilltowns Alive agritourism event series put on by the Carey Institute for Global Good’s Sustainable Communities Program and Helderberg Brewery in collaboration with the New York Bicycling Coalition.

“I’ve been privileged to do a lot of things,” said Pauline Williman. “This is paying back … the Lord told us to feed his people. I’ve had many blessings; I’ll try to feed people in return.”

Liz Joy, campaigning

“Every vote in an election is a seed sown … sown in the land we’re given,” said Liz Joy, who is running for Congress next year. She told those attending her talk in Westerlo that it is extremely important for Christians to vote, and that elections would put either godly or ungodly people in power.

The town supervisor said that the Berne Town Board’s Wednesday meeting was cancelled due to safety concerns following an incident on Tuesday afternoon relating to that meeting. Councilman Joel Willsey told The Enterprise on Wednesday afternoon that, after reviewing a recording of last month’s town board meeting, he had on Tuesday requested better security during meetings. 

WESTERLO — Ronald J. Bryan, a quiet man who was always there to serve his community, died on Monday, Aug. 12, 2019, after a brief illness He was 77.

A quiet and generous man, Mr. Bryan was “always willing to help,” and volunteered everywhere, said his daughter, Stephanie Tapia.

The Foxenkill will no longer be a tavern, says new owner Joe Plouffe, but a family-style Renaissance-themed restaurant.

Knox Town Hall

The town of Knox filed its financial report for the year 2018 on Tuesday, months after it was due. Financial reports for the two previous years were also filed this year.

The Dollar General in East Berne, at the intersection of Main Street and Helderberg Trail, had some traffic Monday afternoon. The store, which the Berne Planning Board approved in December, had its grand opening on Saturday, Aug. 10.
