This past weekend, June 9 and 10, the Guilderland girls’ track team competed with the best in the state. The New York State Public High School Athletic Association event was held at Middletown High School. The Dutch are coming home with medals from most of their events.

The Albany Pine Bush Preserve is inviting the public to three free summer evening events on Wednesdays, June 14, July 12, and Aug. 16.

The Pine Bush Discovery Center, at 195 New Karner Road, will extend operations until 7:30 p.m. on each of these days during the longer sunlit summer hours.

A May 23 public hearing on a proposed 11-lot subdivision off of Altamont’s Western Avenue was kept open until the zoning board’s next meeting, currently set for June 28.

Gloria Kirchner Ozimek

Gloria Kirchner Ozimek started her own real-estate business after retiring from a career working in the Guilderland schools and for Albany County.

After an arduous 12-year battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, she died on Sunday, June 4, 2023, in Port Charlotte, Florida, where she had lived. She was 78.

Last Thursday and Friday, June 1 and 2, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Guilderland, and Voorheesville track teams competed to qualify for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association competition. The Dutch will have three relay teams and eight individuals competing.

Last Wednesday, May 31, the summer collegiate baseball season returned to Dutchmen Field in Keenholts Park. Twenty-six collegiate players from across the country make up the Albany Dutchmen, playing in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League practiced before the season opener.
