ALTAMONT — Monday morning, Bette Cowley had a lifetime of treasures spread out on the bed she and her husband had shared for decades. Ed Cowley died on Saturday morning, Oct. 11, 2014. He was 89.

ALTAMONT — Trevon Perez-Tucker, of Altamont, was named Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week for the Ithaca College soccer team last week.

BERNE — The Berne-Knox-Westerlo girls’ volleyball team has been playing well lately, winning its host tournament on Oct. 4, and then beating Middleburgh in straight sets (25-9, 25-17, and 25-14) on Oct. 8.

In response to the letter from Erin Bradt regarding buying locally raised/grown food ("Know your farmer, know your food," Oct. 9, 2014): You give an admirable description of what your farm, and others like it, are like, and how important they are to reducing our carbon footprint, producing healthy food, etc.

In response to Marcia Ranieri’s letter printed in The Altamont Enterprise on Oct. 9, regarding crosswalks, she did not mention if cars were not stopping while she was in the crosswalk.

GUILDERLAND — Christopher Weston, whose family called him a gentle soul, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014.

The beloved son of Edward and Virginia Weston, he enjoyed spending time with his family and working on his remote-control cars.

GUILDERLAND — On Oct. 2 at 8 p.m., Guilderland Police responded to a report that a train had struck someone, and determined that the victim had committed suicide.

GUILDERLAND — At its board meeting on Tuesday night, the town board unanimously passed a resolution to approve the Guilderland Center Pedestrian Safety Sidewalk Construction Project.
